Max and Sue Bayer established this scholarship for St. Marys High students who will attend trade school rather than a four-year college.
This scholarship was created to honor and to inspire. It honors the lives of Helen Meyer Pauly and Mary Beth Muckenthaler Perry: two women who grew up in, and served, the community of St. Marys, Kansas. They both graduated from St. Marys High School. There are other similarities to their lives. They were both members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Literary Club, and dedicated employees of Bayer Stone. They were wives, mothers, grandmothers, neighbors, and aunts. They knew love and they knew loss; they each experienced the heartbreak of losing loved ones too soon. They both loved St. Marys and found their own ways to serve. Helping with church picnics, local economic development, and St. Marys High School reunions, these women were always involved in their community and serving their neighbors. It is hoped that the examples of their lifelong commitment will encourage and energize others to find and follow their own paths to community engagement. Apply here.
